Goldream Wins Gr1 King's Stand Stakes
At Royal Ascot in the UK, 6YO gelding Goldream (Oasis Dream-Clizia, by Machiavellian) landed by far the biggest prize of his career when scoring by a short head for trainer Robert Cowell and jockey Martin Harley in the £375,000 Gr1 King's Stand Stakes (5 furlongs), over 9YO gelding Medicean Man (Medicean-Kalindi, by Efisio) & 5YO gelding Muthmir (Invincible Spirit-Fairy of the Night, by Danehill). Goldream prevailed in a photo finish over veteran sprinter Medicean Man to take his record to 6 wins (including the Gr3 Palace House Stakes) and 11 placings from 31 starts for £347,071 earnings. Winning trainer Robert Cowell told Racing Post: "He's been brilliant, I didn't think he'd win a race like this but I thought he'd been getting to this sort of level." He added: "It was a brilliant ride by Martin [Harley] and I'm pleased for the owners. I'm loving this race, it's fantastic." Brazilian born superstar rider Joao Moreira, who was aboard Medicean Man, received a seven-day ban for using his whip above the permitted level.
