Solow Wins Gr1 Queen Anne Stakes

Wednesday, 17th June 2015

At Royal Ascot in the UK, deceased multiple Gr1-winning former Darley shuttler & Dubai World Cup winner Singspiel (In The Wings-Glorious Song, by Halo) celebrated a Gr1 success when 5YO UK-bred entire Solow (Singspiel-High Maintenance, by Highest Honor) scored by 1-length for trainer Freddy Head and jockey Maxime Guyon in the £375,000 Gr1 Queen Anne Stakes (8 furlongs), over 5YO mare Esoterique (Danehill Dancer-Dievotchka, by Dancing Brave) & 4YO entire Cougar Mountain (Fastnet Rock-Descant, by Nureyev). Solow laid legitimate claims to being the best miler in the world with this classy performance which took his record to 10 wins (including the Gr1 Prix d'lspahan & Gr1 Dubai Turf Stakes) and 3 placings from 15 starts for £2,926,363 earnings. Trainer Freddy head told Racing Post: "It is beautiful. He is so easy to train, he's the number one. I thought in the race they were always going pretty slowly and I was a bit worried." Head said that Solow may head to the Gr1 Sussex Stakes if he pulls up well. "Maybe the Sussex Stakes might be a race for him if he comes out of this race well. He's a long-striding horse in terms of the Breeders' Cup so a small track like Keeneland might not suit him." The big disappointment of the race was Hong Kong star Able Friend who struggled into sixth place after sweating up noticeably prior to the race.
