Tiara Start In Doubt For Najoom
Exciting filly Najoom (Northern Meteor-Charlety Star, by Arena) is still only a borderline chance of making the field for Saturday's Gr1 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast, reports horseracing.com.au. The Gai Waterhouse-trained 3YO is currently 19th in the order of entry for the $500,000 fillies and mares feature which will have a maximum field size of 16. The Northern Meteor filly has overcome a minor leg injury sustained after her explosive victory in the Gr3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben in late May, and showed she was primed for her latest assignment with an impressive 1000m barrier trial win at the Gold Coast yesterday. The Courier Mail's Ben Dorries was trackside at the Gold Coast and reported that Najoom was one of the best workers of the morning. "Najoom worked well this morning at Doomben and is the favourite for the Group 1 Tatts Tiara on the Gold Coast on Saturday," Dorries wrote. Najoom's rider Tommy Berry was also suitably impressed. "Top class work from Najoom this morning at Doomben!!! Let's bring on Saturday," Berry tweeted. Najoom, who hails from the family of multiple Gr1 winner Criterion, has won 5 wins of her 7 starts hitherto for $253,050 in earnings.
