Diademe Ready For Swansong

Thursday, 18th June 2015

Talented Kiwi mare Diademe (Savabeel-Bling, by O'Reilly) is in the right shape to give her new connections an early return on their investment when she has her final race start this weekend, reports NZ Racing Desk. The daughter of Savabeel will attempt to double her Gr1 tally when she runs in Saturday's $500,000 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast. Diademe's career highlight came at Te Aroha in April with victory in the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes under the guidance of Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman for owner Scott Richardson. She then finished a respectable eighth from the outside gate in the Gr1 Queen of the Turf at Randwick for the Cambridge trainers before she joined the Warwick Farm stable of Baker's son Bjorn. Diademe ran sixth in the Gr3 Dark Jewel Classic at Scone and was then offered for sale on the Gold Coast where was purchased for $740,000 by Coolmore and the China Horse Club. There remains a Kiwi connection with the 6YO as Cambridge bloodstock agent Michael Wallace, who signed the sale docket, is the China Horse Club's racing and bloodstock manager. Diademe signalled her readiness for her swansong with a 1000 metre trial placing at Randwick earlier this month. "She's going well and she was very unlucky at Scone last time out," Baker said. "She is in good order and she will have a track to suit her with a little bit of cut in it. This will be her last race and she'll go to Coolmore directly afterwards."
