OBS June Sale Day-1: US$575K For Scat Daddy Colt

Thursday, 18th June 2015

A colt by Scat Daddy (Hip 78) has topped the opening day of the OBS (Ocala Breeders' Sale Company) June 2YOs and Horses of Racing Age Sale when knocked down to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum for a June Sale record of US$575,000. The dark bay or brown colt breezed a quarter-mile in :20 4/5, the equal fastest time at the distance at Monday's Under Tack session. Consigned by SGV Thoroughbreds (Steven Venosa) as agent, the colt is out of the Silver Hawk mare Antoinette and is a half brother to the stakes placed Notassharpasuthink. "Coming in here we had really high expectations on the horse," said Venosa, who also sold Zero Hour, the US$1.4 million sale-topper at the OBS March sale. "It's a horse that was broke a little late in the year. We were thinking about possibly taking him to the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale, but we really felt that with a few more weeks the horse would benefit and could come here and really showcase his ability." He added: "The horse performed well back at the farm on the dirt track that we train on. I think he can run on any surface. He's just a really amazing horse." For the session, 136 horses grossed US$5,039,100, compared with 177 selling for a total of US$5,358,900 in 2014. The average was US$37,052, up from US$30,276 in 2014, while the median price was US$17,500 compared with US$23,000 a year ago.
