Osaila Wins Listed Sandringham Handicap
At Royal Ascot in the UK, former Coolmore shuttler Danehill Dancer (Danehill-Mira Adonde, by Sharpen Up) added a black-type success when 3YO filly Osaila (Danehill Dancer-Mennetou, by Entrepreneur) scored by a nose for trainer Richard Hannon in the £70,000 Listed Sandringham Handicap (8 furlongs) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies Always Smile (Cape Cross-Eastern Joy, by Dubai Destination) & Touchline (Exceed and Excel-Trianon, by Nayef). The Al Shaqab Racing-owned Osaila took her record to 5 wins (including the Gr3 Nell Gwynn Stakes) and 2 placings (including the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf) from 10 starts for £346,526 earnings. "We always thought she was very good, but she didn't run her race in the Guineas," Hannon told Sky Sports. "We've got her back now, she put on a lot of weight, she travelled really well and is obviously a very good filly." Osaila's victory also gave Frankie Dettori his 50th Royal Ascot winner. "Sheikh Joaan saved my career and I'm very grateful, Ascot is my place and I love it," said Dettori. "Fifty is a big number, to join the greats like Lester Piggott and Pat Eddery means a lot. I was getting a bit worried because I had some good rides today, but now I've done it."
