Escado Wins Gr3 Tattersall's Cup

Monday, 22nd June 2015

At the Gold Coast in Queensland, Gr1-winning & 5-times Gr1-placed Vinery Stud stallion Casino Prince (Flying Spur-Lady Capel, by Last Tycoon) added a Group success when 5YO gelding Escado (Casino Prince-Secret Cause, by Giant's Causeway) scored by 0.2-length for trainer Matt Laurie in the $200,000 Gr3 Tattersall's Cup (2400m) for 3YO+, over fellow 5YO gelding Shoreham (Reset-Teneales Pearl, by Redoute's Choice) & 7YO mare Epingle (Pins-Etoile du Nord, by Zabeel). Remarkably, this was Escado's first win since landing the Gr1 South Australian Derby was back in May 2013. "I won the Derby on him in Adelaide as a three-year-old," said winning jockey Ben Melham. "He's a true stayer and anything over 2000m he's competitive and good to see him back in the winner's circle." Escado, who was passed in for $55,000 at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Bombora Downs, took his record to 4 wins (including the Gr1 SA Derby) & 8 placings (including the Gr3 MRC Easter Cup, Listed Caloundra Cup & Listed Geelong Classic) from 35 starts for $701,020 earnings.
