Srikandi Wins Gr1 Tattersall's Tiara

Monday, 22nd June 2015

At the Gold Coast in Queensland, Darley's three-time Gr1-winning world-class shuttle sire Dubawi (Dubai Millennium-Zomaradah, by Deploy) celebrated a Gr1 success when 4YO mare Srikandi (Dubawi-Raining, by Hurricane Sky) scored by 1-length for trainer Ciaron Maher in the $500,000 Gr1 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) for 3YO+ f&m, over 6YO mare Avoid Lightning (Blevic-Ya Michelle, by Success Express) & 3YO filly Lumosty (Fastnet Rock-Luminous Eyes, by Bachelor Duke). Srikandi's second Gr1 victory boosted her impressive record to 9 wins (including the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap, Gr2 Victory Stakes, Gr3 Glenlogan Park Stakes & Listed Silk Stocking) and 2 placings (including the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap) from 13 starts for $2,172,600 earnings. "She came through the Stradbroke great and her coat's even come on. She was really sharp from the barrier which was the key to the race and Kerrin McEvoy, a super ride again," said Maher. "We programmed her for the five races up here this campaign and the four Gr1s, and to be able to secure two of them it's just unbelievable." He added: "She'll probably have a break up here and we'll have to sit down tonight and have a think about it [what we do next]." Srikandi is out of the Hurricane Sky mare Raining, a half-sister to South African Gr3 winning mare Rain Gal (Galileo) and the stakes-placed Arjuna (Giant's Causeway).
