War Affair Wins Gr1 Patron Bowl
At Kranji racecourse in Singapore, Waikato Stud's champion sire O'Reilly (Last Tycoon-Courtza, by Pompeii Court) celebrated a Gr1 success when 4YO New Zealand-bred gelding War Affair (O'Reilly-Kristique, by Kris S) scored by 3-lengths in a time of 1:33.45 for trainer Alwin Tan in the Gr1 Patrons Bowl (1600m) for 4YOs, over 4YO Argentinian-bred entire Quechua (Pure Prize-Queen Cabaret, by Wild Event) & fellow 4YO gelding Magneto (Footstepsinthesand-Siusi, by Engrillado). This was the fifth Gr1 victory for War Affair who took his record to 14 wins (including the Gr1 Lion City Cup, Gr1 Raffles Cup, Gr1 Kranji Mile, Gr1 Singapore Guineas & Gr2 Singapore 3YO Classic) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 Raffles Cup) from 19 starts for S$2,509,038 earnings. War Affair, who was purchased for NZ$70,000 by David Ellis at the 2012 Karaka Premier Yearling Sale from his breeder Trelawney stud, is a grandson of 4-time Gr1-winning US mare Nastique, dam of Gr1-winning Japanese galloper Nobo True (Broad Brush) and US Gr3 winner Thunder Kitten. Winning trainer Alwin Tan intimated that War Affair, who is just one win away from the Singapore Four-Year-Old Challenge Triple Crown, could potentially travel to Australia later this year for the Cox Plate. "I have not really thought of any race, but a race like the Cox Plate could be something to consider," said Tan.
