VRC Honour Takeover Target

Thursday, 25th June 2015

The Victoria Racing Club has honoured Takeover Target by renaming the feature sprint race at Flemington on Saturday after the champion sprinter who died last Friday after breaking his leg in a freak paddock accident, reports Racing.com. The Takeover Target Tribute Handicap (1100m), which is a heat of the All Victorian Sprint Series, will be run as race five on the nine-race card with a field of 14 set to contest the $80,000 event. Hard Romp is the current $4.80 favourite for the race, followed by Written up at $6 and Nadeem Lass at $6.50. The Joe Janiak-trained Takeover Target achieved world-wide fame winning 8 Gr1 races in four countries, namely Australia, England, Singapore and Japan, in an outstanding career that yielded 21 wins from 48 starts and over $6 million prize money.
