Treve Wins Gr1 Prix de Saint-Cloud
Treve's bid for an historic third Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe success in October remains on track after the superstar French mare scored by a comfortable 1.25-lengths for trainer Criquette Head-Maarek in the Gr1 Prix de Saint-Cloud (12 furlongs) at Saint-Cloud overnight. The Al Shaqab Racing-owned 5YO defeated the Andre Fabre-trained Flintshire (Dansili) and the Aga Khan's Dolniya (Azamour) to claim her fifth top-flight success. "It was fantastic. She won very easily, she just needed a tap to make her go," a delighted Head-Maarek said. "She's a good filly. We don't know what she's worth really. The plan is to give her a break and then bring her back for the Vermeille." The Prix Vermeille will be run at Longchamp on September 13. Harry Herbert, racing advisor to owner Sheikh Joaan Al Thani, said: "Absolutely fantastic. That was really exciting. It just shows she's as good as ever or better than ever because it was a very impressive performance on ground that was certainly quicker than ideal." He added: "The next stop is the Vermeille. It's fingers crossed. Everything's gone well so far and it's been a great performance by Criquette. We hope now the plan can be executed. We're halfway through the plan." Treve took her record to 8 wins (including the Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe - twice, Gr1 Prix de Diane & Gr1 Prix Vermeille) and 2 placings (including the Gr1 Prix Ganay) from 11 starts.
