Galileo Adds Ireland Gr2

Tuesday, 30th June 2015

At the Curragh in Ireland, former Coolmore shuttler and triple Gr1-winning champion European sire Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a Group quinella when 3YO colt Bondi Beach (Galileo-One Moment in Time, by Danehill) scored by a short head for trainer Aidan O'Brien in the Gr3 Curragh Cup (14 furlongs) for 3YO+, over stable-mate and fellow 3YO colt Order Of St George (Galileo-Another Storm, by Gone West) & 5YO mare Drifting Mist (Muhtathir-Fenella's Link, by Linamix). This was the first stakes victory for the highly promising Bondi Beach who took his record to 2 wins and 1 placing (the Listed King George V Cup) from 3 starts for €56,555 earnings. Trainer Aidan O'Brien said that Bondi Beach was likely to head straight to the St Leger Stakes at Doncaster in September without another run. "They look two proper St Leger horses [Bondi Beach and Order Of St George], and have pulled right away as well. The mile and six furlongs helped Bondi Beach and Seamie gave him a great ride," O'Brien told Sky Sports. "Order Of St George was entitled to get tired. He was ready in the spring and then got a temperature. He could go for something like the Voltigeur at York, while the winner may not need another run (before Doncaster)."
