Impressive Irish Debut Winner For Fastnet Rock
Fastnet Rock's good recent run in the northern hemisphere continued overnight with 2YO filly Turret Rocks wining a 1600m maiden at Gowran Park in Ireland. Carrying the famous purple and white silks of Mrs Jim Bolger for her husband and trainer Jim Bolger, Turret Rocks settled well outside the leader and favourite True Solitaire for jockey Kevin Manning before asserting her authority late to draw clear and win by a widening 1.75-lengths. This was an impressive victory by the well-bred Turret Rocks who is sure to improve significantly from the experience after racing greenly in the concluding stages. Bred by Jim Bolger, Turret Rocks is out of the Galileo mare Beyond Compare and is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Australian import Beyond Thankful. Turret Rocks is also a direct descendent of champion European filly Gold River, winner of the 1981 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Turret Rocks becomes the latest northern hemisphere winner for Fastnet Rock who has sired Gr1 winning fillies Qualify (Epsom Oaks) and Diamondsandrubies (Pretty Polly Stakes) in recent weeks.
