Melbourne Cup Target For Gust Of Wind

Thursday, 2nd July 2015

Australian Oaks winner Gust Of Wind (Darci Brahma-Starrystarrynight, by Sadler's Wells) is being set for the Melbourne Cup with trainer John Sargent believing the 3200m trip will suit the filly down to the ground, reports NZ Racing Desk. The New Zealand trainer, who is now based at Randwick, will target the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups with the daughter of Darci Brahma and believes she will measure up during the Spring. "She's all systems go for the Melbourne carnival," Sargent said. "I don't think I've had a horse spell as well as her, she's come back muscled up and looking fantastic." He added: "The Oaks fillies haven't really stepped up into the Spring at four for a few years, so hopefully she will because I know at least she's going to get a mile-and-a-half or further - she's a real dour staying type. She only had a short, sharp (campaign) last season and she's had a good break so let's hope she steps up in the Spring."
