Valuable Colt Wins Debut

Thursday, 2nd July 2015

Trainer Gerald Ryan is hoping that valuable colt Land's End can measure up in the spring after the son of Fastnet Rock made a winning debut over 1300m at Warwick Farm yesterday. Land's End was a $700,000 purchase by David Raphael at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Coolmore Stud and is out of the well-bred mare Hummingbird, a daughter of Galileo and Gr2 winner Cashier. Ryan said Land's End would have one more start over 1400m before connections decide their next move. "He's a nice horse who I think could measure up," Ryan told Sky Racing. "We'll just poke along with him. We won't overtax him because the spring isn't that far away. I'll give him another run at 1400m and then sum him up." He added: "I've liked him all the way along...but he still has some maturing to do." Despite showing signs of greenness in the straight, Land's End proved too strong for the Chris Waller-trained Gigolo winning by 0.8-length with favourite I'm Not Sure back in third.
