Zoffany Colt Tops Opening Session Of Arqana Summer Sale
A colt by boom first season sire Zoffany topped the first day of the Arqana Summer Sale at Deauville yesterday when selling for €160,000 to Laurent Benoît of Broadhurst Agency. Catalogued as lot 67 and offered by Mocklershill, the bay will stay in France to be trained by André Fabre for an undisclosed client. Coolmore's Irish-based Gr1 Phoenix Stakes winning son of Dansili captured the attention of breeders when siring three winners at Royal Ascot last month, namely Illuminate, Washington DC and Waterloo Bridge. The opening session of the two-day sale saw 98 lots sell for €2,317,000, down 26 per cent from last year, while the average dipped slightly at €23,643 (down 2 per cent). The clearance rate was 57 per cent as against 73 per cent in 2014.
