Australian-Owned Italian Colt Aimed At Cox Plate

Friday, 3rd July 2015

Australian Bloodstock has purchased Italian colt Goldstream (Martino Alonso-Imco Imagination, by Darshaan) with a view to aiming him at this year's Cox Plate. The 3YO, who is unbeaten in five starts including a last-start victory in the Gr2 Derby Italiano in Rome, has been transferred from Stefano Botti to the stable of German handler Andreas Wohler, the original trainer of Australian Bloodstock's Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist. "The Italian form is a little bit left-field so we just need to put him in the eyes of the decision-makers and show that he's a serious horse," Australian Bloodstock director Jamie Lovett told RSN. "We think he's an ideal Cox Plate horse. Obviously as a northern-hemisphere-bred three-year-old, similarly to Adelaide last year, he'll be at a disadvantage at the weights but we think he's the right horse."
