Prix Niel Aim For Jack Hobbs

Tuesday, 7th July 2015

Trainer John Gosden has mentioned the Prix Niel as the potential next target for Irish Derby winner Jack Hobbs, reports Sky Sports. The Newmarket trainer believes the mile-and-half Gr2 at Longchamp on 13 September could be the perfect lead-up race for the 3YO before the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe over the same course and distance a month later. After two second placings behind stable-mate Golden Horn in the Epsom Derby and Dante Stakes, the highly regarded Jack Hobbs (Halling-Swain's Gold, by Swain) finally claimed his moment in the spotlight with a 5-length victory in the Irish Derby, the first British-trained winner of the classic in twenty years. "Jack Hobbs is a lovely horse who has come all the way through. He got unlucky running into Golden Horn in both the Dante and the Derby. He is having a short holiday now and is just trotting," Gosden said. "A race like the Prix Niel could be for him before the Arc. He is a Halling so if the ground is soft it should help him." Jack Hobbs was purchased by Godolphin after finishing runner-up to Golden Horn in the Gr2 Dante Stakes in May.
