King George Aim For Eagle Top

Thursday, 9th July 2015

The John Gosden-trained Eagle Top has been confirmed as a runner in the Gr1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2400m) at Ascot on 25 July, reports Racing Post. The 4YO gave what is arguably his best career performance to date in last year's King George, when finishing an excellent fourth behind star filly Taghrooda on just his fourth career outing. This season the son of Pivotal has been slower to come to hand, but showed he wasn't far from returning to the winner's circle when second to runaway winner Snow Sky in the Gr2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot. Hugo Lascelles, racing manager for Eagle Top's owner Lady Bamford, said: "It is the plan for Eagle Top to go again this year for the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes." He added: "It was a good run when he was fourth last year and again last time out in the Hardwicke. Eagle Top has a good record at Ascot, having won last year's King Edward VII, and we will give it a go."
