Rock Royalty Wins Listed Ramornie Handicap
At Grafton on the NSW North Coast, former Haunui Farm stallion Elusive City (Elusive Qality-Star Of Paris, by Dayjur) added a black-type success when 6YO gelding Rock Royalty (Elusive City-Vying, by Vyner's Orb) scored by 1.5-lengths for trainer Liam Birchley in the $150,000 Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) for 3YO+, over 4YO Godolphin gelding Barbed (Canny Lad-Key Bar Nights, by Anabaa) & fellow 6YO gelding Rocket To Glory (Shovhog-English Summer, by Dodge). This was the first stakes victory for the talented Rock Royalty who took his record to 7 wins and 5 placings from 17 starts for $254,530 earnings. Rock Royalty's brilliant time of 1:07.87 actually broke the track record of 1:08.02 set in 2008 by The Jackal. "He's a progressive near-seven-year-old," trainer Liam Birchley told Sky Racing. "It really is great to win this race. I brought Sir Breakfast here a few years ago and he got the job done. I haven't had many runners in it for a while and I really thought I was up against it from the gate today." Rock Royalty is out the New Zealand bred mare Vying, a half-sister to Gr1 Railway & Gr1 Telegraph Handicap winning sprinter Loader.
