Inaugural $250K Inglis Cup During Melbourne Spring Carnival

Friday, 10th July 2015

The inaugural Inglis Cup worth $250,000 has been scheduled to be run over 2000m at Caulfield on Saturday 26 September 2015 during the Spring Racing Carnival in Melbourne. The Inglis Cup is for Inglis Yearling Sales graduates aged four years old that have been nominated into the $5 million Inglis Race Series. "We are excited about the first running of the Inglis Cup, which is a natural evolution of the Blue Riband Session of the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale that we introduced to great success in 2013," said Inglis Victorian Bloodstock Manager Simon Vivian. Starspangledbanner, Mossfun, Sincero and Cosmic Endeavour all used Inglis Race Series events to launch to Gr1 stardom and the new Inglis Cup, being the longest sales restricted race in Australia, is an ideal stepping stone for middle-distance and staying type horses into additional spring riches. "The Spring Carnival in Melbourne is a major highlight of the Australian racing calendar, and there is no better way to conclude the Inglis Race Series for 2013 graduates than the Inglis Cup at Caulfield in September," said Mark Webster, Inglis' Managing Director. The Inglis Cup is the final race in each Inglis Race Series and this year the race presents an opportunity for the deadlock to be broken on the $50,000 Trainers' Bonus. There are two individual trainers and two training partnerships equal on two wins apiece for the $50,000 Trainer Bonus for 2013 Inglis Yearling Sales graduates:

  • Brett Cavanough – Loved Up (2 wins)
  • Gerald Ryan – Peggy Jean & Klammer
  • Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes – Mossfun & Gold Force
  • David Hayes & Tom Dabernig – Firehouse Rock & Jurasound
