Spillway In Doubt For Spring

Friday, 10th July 2015

Australian Cup winner Spillway (Rail Link-Flower Market, by Cadeaux Genereux) could miss the spring due to a leg injury, reports Racing.com. Co-trainer Tom Dabernig, who prepares the UK-bred son of Rail Link in partnership with his uncle David Hayes, said the injury was not serious but may force him to sit out the spring. "Hopefully all being well we'll have him back for the Spring but if not we'll put him away for the autumn," Dabernig told RSN radio yesterday. "It's not something that he can't overcome but it's just something that we have to be mindful of so that we don't get him up too quickly." He added: "At the moment he's having a slow and steady build-up but the test will be when he commences galloping." Spillway claimed the first Gr1 victory of his career when defeating stable-mate Extra Zero by just 0.1-length in the Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington in March.
