Spangled Flies Flag For Starspangledbanner

Monday, 13th July 2015

Australian-bred sire Starspangledbanner looks to have yet another exciting prospect on his hands after 3YO filly Spangled (Starspangledbanner-Zykina, by Pivotal) recorded a stylish victory at Newmarket in the UK on Friday. Trained by Roger Varian for owners Cheveley Park Stud, Spangled accounted for some qualities fillies when scoring by 1-length over the William Haggas-trained Muffri'Ha and Godolphin filly Wordcraft, a daughter of Australian-bred mare and Golden Slipper winner Forensics. Varian said he would now look to step Spangled up to stakes company.  "She is a big girl and a spitting image of her stallion. I think she is a good filly," Varian told Sky Sports. "She is big, but she moves well. It has taken time for her to find her strength but she is getting there and is still a bit green." he added: "The race had a feel that there was a bit of depth to it which bodes well as there was some well-touted fillies in it. She has won her maiden and now a handicap so there is no reason why we can't look at a higher level." The beautifully bred Spangled is out of the unraced Pivotal mare Zykina, a daughter of 4-time Gr1 winner and champion UK filly Russian Rhythm (Kingmambo).
