Gleneagles In Good Form Ahead Of Sussex
Gleneagles pleased trainer Aidan O'Brien in a track gallop on Friday and is set to take on older horses for the first time in the Gr1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on 29 July, reports Sky Sports. The 2000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes winner will likely clash with French star and Queen Anne Stakes winner Solow, setting the stage for another exciting edition of the 'Duel on the Downs.' Billed as the Duel on the Downs - following in the tradition of recent high profile clashes such as Henrythenavigator v Raven's Pass (2008), Rip Van Winkle v Paco Boy (2009), Canford Cliffs v Rip Van Winkle (2010), Toronado v Dawn Approach (2013), and last year with Kingman v Toronado - the Sussex usually determines Europe's best miler. "I met Aidan and Joseph on Saturday in Newmarket and they said he [Gleneagles] is in great shape and did a nice piece of work the previous day. Hopefully he will live up to expectations on the Sussex Downs," Coolmore's UK representative Kevin Buckley said. "He is a specialist miler and Aidan O'Brien holds him in high esteem. He is a very tough horse, with a low action and you can see the Giant's Causeway coming through in him."
