Roxy Star Exciting Prospect For Fastnet Rock
Fastnet Rock's tremendous run of success in the northern hemisphere continued on Friday evening when talented filly Roxy Star maintained her unbeaten record at Ascot. The William Haggas-trained 3YO took her record to 3 wins from as many starts when scoring a most impressive win in the Norman Court Stud Fillies' Handicap over 1600m. Roxy Star, who had been ridden up on the speed at her first two outings, clearly relished a change of tactics by jockey Pat Cosgrave who held her up in last place before she let down with a very smart turn of foot to win by 2.5-lengths over Supreme Occasion and Sonnetation. Bred by Barronstown Stud, Roxy Star is the first foal of the unraced Montjeu mare Sweet Dreams Baby, a daughter of English Oaks winner Shahtoush. Coolmore decided not to shuttle Fastnet Rock to Ireland for the 2015 breeding season due to declining books' of mares. However, wins such as this by Roxy Star, and recent Gr1 victories by his daughters Qualify (Epsom Oaks) and Diamondsandrubies (Pretty Polly Stakes), are sure to raise the son of Danehill's profile leading into 2016.
