Gr1 Target For Promising Hazzabeel
Trainer Dan Morton is hoping to qualify exciting West Australian galloper Hazzabeel (Zabeel-Miss Avalon, by Fantastic Light) for the $1 million Gr1 Railway Stakes (1600m) later in the year. The well-bred son of Zabeel, who was purchased by Gai Waterhouse and bloodstock agent James Harron for NZ$180,000 at the 2012 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale, has won 4 of his 5 starts hitherto, with his only defeat coming in February year when he reportedly chocked down. Hazzabeel's class was no more evident than at his most recent outing when the rising 5YO overcame a tough three-wide trip to salute over 1400m at Belmont. "When they are a $1.30 they are expected to win easy, but he had to dig deep," Morton told the West Australian. "He showed a bit of quality to shake off the other horse the way he did. I am still getting to know the horse and he is still new to it all." he added: "He will have one more run and then go for a short break. He is not qualified for the Railway and he has to climb the ratings ladder."
