Lady Eli Battling Laminitis

Wednesday, 15th July 2015

Unbeaten US filly Lady Eli, a last start winner of the Belmont Oaks, is battling the deadly hoof disease laminitis, reports Blood Horse. "We're in a wait and see situation," said co-owner Jay Hanley. "It's horrifying and disheartening. If you're an optimist, you'd say she'll race again. If you're a pessimist, she could be battling for her life." Hanley said the two-time Gr1 winner stepped on a nail following her victory in the US$1 million Belmont Oaks earlier this month. Lady Eli has won all six of her starts (including the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf) for US$1,449,800 prize money.
