Dalakhani Sires 44th Stakes Winner
Leading European shuttle stallion Dalakhani sired his 44th career stakes-winner at Longchamp's famous Bastille Day meeting on Wednesday when 3YO filly Candarliya recorded her third consecutive victory. Owned by His Highness the Aga Khan and trained by her sire's former trainer Alain du Royer Dupre, Candarliya cruised to the front in the straight and quickened up smartly to win the Listed Prix de Thiberville over 2400m in good style. From the Barathea mare Candara, Candarliya is yet another example of the continued success of the great Dalakhani x Sadler's Wells cross which has already produced three other stakes-winners in Europe since May. Dalakhani is the sire of 8.7 per cent stakes-winners to runners in his career to date; put in perspective that is a greater return than High Chaparral (6.4%), Snitzel (6.7%) and Fastnet Rock (8.4%). A Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner and European Champion Racehorse, Dalakhani has filled his limited book of mares in each of his first two seasons at Cornerstone Stud in South Australia. His first Australian bred foals born last spring include a half-brother to Hong Kong superstar Able Friend, while this year he has already added the dams of Gr1 winners such as Hucklebuck and Kirramosa to his growing book. The leading shuttle stallion by European stakes winners in 2014 and 2015, Dalakhani will return to Cornerstone Stud again this spring and stand for a fee of $22,000 inc. GST.
