Golden Horn Confirmed For King George

Thursday, 16th July 2015

Owner Anthony Oppenheimer says that Golden Horn (Cape Cross-Fleche d'Or, by Dubai Destination) will "definitely" run in the Gr1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Saturday week provided the ground is suitable, reports Sky Sports. Oppenheimer and trainer John Gosden are happy to run the Epsom Derby and Eclipse Stakes winner as long conditions do not become too demanding. "We've definitely decided to run next week as long as the ground is not very soft or heavy," Oppenheimer said. "Hopefully the weather will stay as it has been, nice and fine." He added: "The list of horses to have done what he is attempting is elite and it would be very nice to create history." If the unbeaten Golden Horn can win the King George, he will emulate the achievements of turf greats Nashwan (1989), Mill Reef (1971) and Tulyar (1952) as the only horses to have won the Derby, Eclipse and King George in the same season.
