Hong Kong Option For Contributer

Friday, 17th July 2015

Godolphin trainer John O'Shea says the Hong Kong International Cup at Sha Tin in December is a potential target for outstanding import Contributer, reports Racing.com. The UK-bred son of High Chaparral has been a revelation since arriving in Australia last spring, winning 4 of his 5 starts including an unbeaten autumn campaign which netted Gr1 victories in the Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) and Ranvet Stakes (2000m) in Sydney. O'Shea said the 5YO will open his spring campaign in the Gr2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on 5 September, which will be used to gauge his Cox Plate credentials. "We've got a good understanding of where he's at and I think we'll kick him off in the old Feehan Stakes which will be one of two runs into the Cox Plate," O'Shea told RSN radio yesterday. "I thought third-up last time he was by far and away at his best and we'll endeavour to have him ready third-up this time and we'll give him one run where he has a look at the Valley to see if he's adaptable to it." He added: "If he gives us every indication that he handles it then the Cox Plate will be his main mission, if he doesn't then we'll reassess and he will be nominated for Hong Kong."
