2000 Guineas Target For Xtravagant

Tuesday, 21st July 2015

Exciting Kiwi colt Xtravagant has taken his first steps towards Gr1 glory in the spring, reports NZ Racing Desk. The son of Pentire scored a stunning 7-length victory on debut at Hastings in the autumn and connections are confident he can develop into a Classic horse this time in. "Of our colts to race, he is right at the top of the pecking order," said Jamie Richards, who prepares Xtravagant with Stephen Autridge. "Obviously we will be shooting for the stars with him and the 2,000 Guineas at Riccarton is the logical place to go." He added: "He's had his first easy gallop and he'll be headed to the Te Teko trials and we'll make a plan from there. He'll probably have a run somewhere and then perhaps go to Hastings for the Guineas. He's coming up very well and he's an exciting colt." From the unraced Zabeel mare Axiom, Xtravagant is a sibling to multiple Gr1 performer and NZ 2,000 Guineas runner-up He's Remarkable and was purchased by Te Akau Racing principal David Ellis for NZ$375,000 from the draft of Rich Hill Stud at last year's NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale. "He was on the must have list and he's continued to develop since then," Richards said.
