Starspangledbanner Adds Ireland Gr3
At the Curragh in Ireland on Sunday, Rosemont Stud's 4-time Gr1-winning sire Starspangledbanner (Choisir-Gold Anthem, by Made of Gold) added a Group success when 3YO colt Home Of The Brave (Starspangledbanner-Blissful Beat, by Beat Hollow) scored by 3.5-lengths for trainer Hugo Palmer in the Gr3 Minstrel Stakes (7 furlongs) for 3YO+, over 7YO Irish-bred gelding Gordon Lord Byron (Byron-Boa Estrela, by Intikhab) & 6YO Irish-bred gelding Sovereign Debt (Dark Angel-Kelsey Rose, by Most Welcome). This was the first Group victory for the talented Home Of The Brave who took his record to 3 wins (including the Listed European Free Handicap) and 4 placings (including the Gr3 Sirenia Stakes) from 7 starts for €71,684 earnings. Owned by the Australian-based Flemington Bloodstock Partnership, Home Of The Brave is clearly highly regarded by connections with the chestnut having contested both the Gr1 Commonwealth Cup and the Gr1 2000 Guineas this season. Speaking after the race, trainer Hugo Palmer said he still holds Gr1 aspirations for Home Of The Brave. "I thought he'd win but I didn't quite think he'd win like that," Palmer told Sky Sports. "The Hungerford Stakes (on August 15) would look the obvious next target. There is the Prix Maurice de Gheest but that might be his Group One for next year." He added: "He was sixth and ran very well in the Guineas but he's maybe actually a bit better than that. He's a lightly-framed horse and will be much stronger next year."
