The Cleaner A Month Away

Tuesday, 21st July 2015

Australia's most popular galloper The Cleaner (Savoire Vivre-Dash of Scotch, by Blessington) is likely to launch his Cox Plate campaign in a 1500m open handicap at Moonee Valley on 22 August, according to his trainer Mick Burles. Speaking to RSNs Shane Anderson, Burles said the rising 8YO was enjoying being back in the stable and would be ready to return to racing in four weeks time. "He's really good. I'm real pleased with him. He's happy, he's enjoying things," Burles said. "He's about four weeks away. He'll start galloping tomorrow [Monday]...he'll have his first [serious] gallop and in a couple of weeks I'd like to give him a trial." Burles indicated The Cleaner would most likely resume at Moonee Valley given his affinity with the track. "I'm not sure whether to start him off in the PB Lawrence [Gr2 PB Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield] or go straight to a handicap at Moonee Valley on the 22nd August. He seems to like Moonee Valley, so why change things...but I'll wait to see how the horse is going." The Cleaner's two biggest career wins have been at Moonee Valley, namely in the Gr2 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes and the Gr3 JRA Cup.
