Turn Me Loose & Maygrove Set To Trial
Star performers Turn Me Loose and Maygrove will take part in a stakes-restricted trial at Ruakaka next weekend as the duo step up their preparations for the spring, reports theinformant.co.nz. Prepared by Cambridge-based trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, the stable-mates will have their final hit-out in the 1,000m trial on 1 August before launching their respective spring campaigns. Turn Me Loose (Iffraaj-Indomitable, by Danehill) hasn't raced since winning the New Zealand 2,000 Guineas in November after a planned autumn campaign in Sydney was derailed because of a virus, but Forsman says the 3YO has thrived during his break. "We're very happy with how Turn Me Loose is coming along, he's stronger and much more mature," Forsman said yesterday. "He'll head to Ruakaka next week for the trial there, and then all going well he'll run in the Foxbridge fresh." The Gr2 Lisa Chittick Foxbridge Plate will be run at Te Rapa on 15 August. Meanwhile, the Ruakaka trial is likely to be Maygrove's (Authorized-Lady Zhivago, by Zabeel) only appearance in New Zealand this spring, with the Wellington Cup winner set to target some of the feature staying events in Melbourne. "Maygrove might be at the Ruakaka trial as well, but he's likely to go straight to Melbourne after that," Forsman said. "He'll run in some of the lesser staying races over there at first, but if he performs well enough we might look at some of the bigger ones. He's coming up pretty well too."
