Smith Loses Cobalt Appeal

Thursday, 23rd July 2015

Meanwhile, Newcastle trainer Darren Smith his lost his appeal against a 15-year ban for cobalt offences, reports the Sydney Morning Herald. Smith was disqualified in March after he was found guilty of 42 charges relating to the administration of a prohibited substance (cobalt) to several horses in his care. The NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal is expected to publish its decision by the end of the week and will then receive submissions from both parties as to penalty and any other orders sought. It is believed Smith's legal team will wait to see Judge Paul Armati's reasons for the decision before determining whether to pursue action in the Supreme Court.
