Epsom Target For Burbero

Friday, 24th July 2015

Talented Kiwi-bred and owned galloper Burbero will launch a spring campaign aimed at Gr1 glory at Canterbury on Saturday, reports NZ Racing Desk. Trained by Bjorn Baker for Scott Richardson, the O'Reilly gelding has the $1million Epsom Handicap at Randwick in October as his primary target. Burbero won four races during his last preparation and finished less than three lengths behind Japanese galloper Real Impact when sixth in the Gr1 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill in March. "He was a revelation last time in and if he can continue on with that then we'll have more fun with him for sure," Baker told Racenet. "He often needs a run or two so we'll just see how he goes on Saturday but he's going well and he's definitely fitter than what he's previously been first-up." Burbero will resume in The July Sprint (1100m) on Saturday with top weight of 60.5kg. Apprentice Brodie Loy has been booked to ride.
