Celebrity Miss On Track For Hastings Carnival

Monday, 27th July 2015

Celebrity Miss (Civics-Classic Dame, by Classic Fame) won't have an easy time forcing her way into Gr1 contention for the Hawke's Bay spring carnival, but she showed on Saturday that she was up for the challenge, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 4YO made a successful return in a 1200m open handicap at Otaki winning by 0.2-length over Aaja Nachle and Airfield Road. Celebrity Miss has now won 4 of her past six starts and trainer Lee Somervell is hoping she can continue that form by nominating her for the Hastings Triple Crown which comprises the Makfi Challenge Stakes, the Windsor Park Plate and the Livamol Classic. "I didn't enter her idly, she's a very good horse, and this should help her rating," Somervell said. Celebrity Miss won four races during her last spring and summer preparation and was then put aside after she had finished fifth in the Gr2 Travis Stakes. Somervell said the daughter of Civics had spelled well and she had been showing good form on the track in her lead-up to Saturday. "She's a good staying mare and often they sprint well fresh. I was reasonably confident although I would have been just as happy as long as she was finishing on."
