First Foal For Fiorente

Monday, 27th July 2015

The first reported foal of Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente (Monsun-Desert Bloom, by Pilsudski) has been born at Eliza Park Stud in Victoria. The filly is the third foal from the Stature Of Liberty mare Libertas, who has also produced a filly and a colt from resident stallions Magnus and Moshe respectively. "We've certainly been looking forward to seeing the first of his foals," Eliza Park International's nominations manager, Mark Lindsay said. "He was sought out by breeders from throughout Australasia when we announced he'd stand at Eliza Park International last spring and he ended up covering an outstanding book of 186 mares - this is just the first of the charge." He added: "This filly looks like a real chip off the block and burns around the paddock every chance she gets. Who said the Fiorentes wouldn't run early?" Fiorente, who provided Gai Waterhouse with her first Melbourne Cup winner when winning the 2013 edition of the race, retired with 6 wins from 20 starts and over $6.2 million prize money. The Irish-bred son of Monsun, who hails from the successful Ballymacoll Stud family of Gr1 winners Hellenic, Islington, Mountain High and Greek Dance, will stand this spring at a fee of $17,600.
