Juddmonte Next For Golden Horn

Monday, 27th July 2015

Meanwhile, Golden Horn will be aimed at next month's Gr1 Juddmonte International at York after being a late withdrawal from the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Saturday due to the state of the track, reports Racing Post. Ascot had received 35mm of rain on Friday, and trainer John Gosden deemed the track to be unsuitable for his unbeaten Derby winner after walking the track prior the race. "It is very frustrating. The horse is in superb form, looking the best and probably going the sharpest in his work he ever has. It was a race we were very keen to take on," said Gosden. "The ground in the straight would be no problem - it's just the old track. It rides deep, deep down there and holding. He can go on good to soft no problem. He can probably go on genuine soft, but I don't want to involve him in a sticky, holding ground." He added: "He's a horse with an enormous amount of speed and is an incredible athlete. You're asking him to be nearly a St Leger horse to go on that (ground) today." The Gr1 Juddmonte International Stakes (2000m) will be run at York on August 19.
