Stepitup Wins Gr2 Chairman's Trophy
At Kranji racecourse in Singapore, former 6-time Chilean Champion Sire Hussonet (Mr Prospector-Sacahuista, by Raja Baba), who relocated from Arrowfield Stud to stand at Cornerstone Stud, added a Group success when 5YO Australian-bred gelding Stepitup (Hussonet-Ain't Seen Nothin', by Nothin' Leica Dane) scored by 0.3-length for trainer Laurie Laxon in the S$300,000 Gr2 Chairman's Trophy (1800m) for 3YO+, over 5YO UK-bred gelding Wild Geese (Exceed and Excel-Court Lane, by Machiavellian) & 6YO Australian-bred gelding One Rar (Dane Shadow-Xaarbarella, by Xaar). "This is my fifth Chairman's Trophy and it's an achievement I take a lot of pride in," said Laxon. "He's a lovely horse, only small but all heart and an amazing will to win." He added: "He will have a bit of a break now and I will bring him back for the Kranji Mile and Raffles Cup later in the year." Stepitup, who was purchased by Cliff Brown Racing for $90,000 at the 2011 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Bellerive Stud, took his record to his record to 12 wins (including the Gr1 Singapore Guineas) and 8 placings (including the Gr1 Raffles Cup, Gr1 Singapore Derby & Gr1 Patrons' Bowl) from 29 starts for nearly S$2 million earnings. Stepitup is out of the multiple stakes winning mare Ain't Seen Nothin', who has also produced dual stakes winner Ain'Tnofallenstar (Starcraft) and Gr3 winner Bachman (All American). This is the outstanding Gold Vink family of Australian Oaks heroine Circles Of Gold, her multiple Gr1-winning sons Haradasun and Elvstroem, sub-fertile but brilliant young sire Starspangledbanner, and Golden Slipper winner Polar Success.
