Curalina Wins Gr1 Coaching Club American Oaks

Tuesday, 28th July 2015

At Saratoga racecourse in the US, 3YO filly Curalina (Curlin-Whatdreamsrmadeof, by Graeme Hall) posted the second straight Gr1 victory of her career, albeit via disqualification, when scoring by 2-lengths for trainer Todd Pletcher in the US$300,000 Gr1 Coaching Club American Oaks (9 furlongs) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies I'm A Chatterbox (Munnings-Chit Chatter, by Lost Soldier) & Include Betty (Include-Betty's Solutions, by Eltish). Curalina, who was actually second past the post but was subsequently awarded the race after stewards deemed I'm A Chatterbox bumped her in the stretch, took her overall record to 4 wins (including the Gr1 Acorn Stakes) and 1 placing from 5 starts for US$666,800 earnings. Curalina's jockey, John Velazquez was adamant that the stewards made the right decision. "When she got bumped and went to her left lead, she lost her balance, I lost my balance," he told Blood Horse. "I had to get back on her and just missed it. No doubt in my mind, I was going to get her [the winner]."
