Tramway First-Up For Lucia

Tuesday, 28th July 2015

Lucia Valentina (Savabeel-Staryn Glenn, by Montjeu) will attempt to replicate her brilliant first-up victory in last year's Tramway Stakes (1400m) when she launches her spring campaign in the Gr2 feature at Randwick on 5 September. The dual Gr1-winning daughter of Savabeel will then head towards Australasia's weight-for-age championship, the Cox Plate, at Moonee Valley in late October. "She will more than likely resume in the Tramway, the race that she won first-up last preparation," trainer Kris Lees told RSN radio yesterday. "Hopefully if she's up to her best I'd like to see her in the Cox Plate this year if possible. She'll be nominated for the Caulfield Cup as well but I imagine the Cox Plate path would suit her." He added: "She was very good in her four-year-old season in the spring. She was racing at handicap and set weights level and then in the autumn she was racing at weight-for-age level. She might have been a length below her best [in the autumn], but now I think she is just that little bit more seasoned and I think she is in for a good preparation."
