$1.3M Yearling Set For Debut

Thursday, 30th July 2015

Valuable colt Grand Cross (Fastnet Rock-Defiant Dame, by More Than Ready) will make his belated debut in the Happy Birthday Christie CG&E Maiden Plate (1100m) at Gosford today. Trainer Gerald Ryan bought Grand Cross for $1.3 million at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Coolmore Stud, who have retained an interest in the rising 3YO. Coolmore are part of a high profile syndicate that also includes the China Horse Club Racing and Kia-Ora Stud. The Fastnet Rock colt is the first foal from the stakes-winning More Than Ready mare Defiant Dame, winner of the 2010 Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick. Grand Cross was due to have his first start way back in November last year, but Ryan opted to given the youngster some more paddock time instead. Brenton Avdulla takes the ride after partnering Grand Cross in a recent barrier trial victory at Rosehill on 7 July.
