Bowman Wins Third Sydney Jockeys' Premiership
Hugh Bowman partnered talented colt Sebring Sun to an impressive win at Canterbury Park yesterday and in so doing secured his third Sydney jockeys' premiership. Sebring Sun, racing for the first time since finishing fifth behind Exosphere in the Gr2 Skyline Stakes in February, stormed home to defeat stable-mates Montauk and Metallic Crown by 0.3-length in the TAB.com.au 2YO Handicap over 1200m. Trainer Gary Portelli said post-race that the son of Sebring would now be pointed towards the Gr1 Golden Rose in September. The victory brought up Bowman's 95th winner of the season and gave him his third George Moore Award as the leading metropolitan jockey in Sydney after securing the title in 2008/09 and 2011/12. "I'm very proud and very honoured," Bowman said. The rider has gone on a winning spree with nine city winners in the past fortnight, including a quartet of winners at Warwick Farm last Wednesday, and his ride on Sebring Sun was up there with the best of them.
