Early Rogerson 3YOs Come Out To Play
Graeme and Debbie Rogerson will produce three of their early 3YO crop on the first day of the new season on Saturday, reports NZ Racing Desk. The trio all have worthy credentials but it's Riccarton-bound Postponed gelding Shadow Tower that Graeme Rogerson has earmarked for a start in the first three-year-old Group race of the season, the Gr2 Hawke's Bay Guineas in October. "He's a real good horse. He's a Classic contender for sure," Rogerson said of the Gerry Harvey-owned galloper, who was fourth at Rotorua on debut behind the impressive Zacada. Shadow Tower contests Saturday's Echoes Of Heavean and Ekraar @ Linwood Park 3yo (1200m) at Riccarton with Johnathon Parkes booked to ride. The Rogersons' other three-year-old tagged for the Hawke's Bay Guineas is Lucky Edie, a debut winner at Hastings earlier this month before a fighting fourth in last weekend's Listed Ryder Stakes at Otaki. At Ruakaka, the Rogersons will saddle the talented pair of Halleloojah and Wawrinka in the Manco Big Belly Bins 1000. Wawrinka was a winner at Riccarton last October and has only once missed a placing from seven starts, placing in his two most recent starts at Ruakaka. "He's improving. I'm happy with him and I expect him to run a good race," said Rogerson. Halleloojah showed plenty of promise last preparation, winning easily at Avondale on debut before second placings behind stakes winners Windborne and Rocanto at his next two starts. He was turned out after finishing seventh as favourite in the Gr3 Taranaki 2YO Classic at New Plymouth in February. "I would have liked to have trialled him at Cambridge last week but they were called off," Rogerson said. "But I still think he's forward enough to run a strong 1000m. He pulled up a bit scratchy after his last run at New Plymouth at the end of summer but he's come back well."
