Pharoah Arrives For Haskell

Friday, 31st July 2015

Triple Crown champion American Pharoah arrived at Monmouth Park late on Wednesday afternoon as he prepares for the 48th running of the US$1.75 million Gr1 Haskell Invitational on Sunday, reports Blood Horse. "The trip was very smooth," said assistant trainer Jimmy Barnes. "It's a long trip. We left Del Mar around 1:30 in the morning, flew out of Ontario, California, stopped in Lexington, Kentucky to refuel, and then (encountered) no traffic from there. He is very professional when he travels." With a police escort from Atlantic City Airport leading the way up the Garden State Parkway, American Pharoah was bedded down in the Monmouth backstretch just before 5 p.m. The 3YO colt is scheduled to gallop on Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 7:30-7:50 am. Friday's and Saturday's gallop will be open to the public free of charge. "He walked this morning and will jog about a mile over the track tomorrow morning at 7:30," said Barnes. "He will probably do the same thing the three days leading up to the race. He just seems to keep getting better." Along with American Pharoah, the likely Haskell field will include Competitive Edge, Mr Jordan, Upstart, Keen Ice, War Story, Top Clearance, and Tekton.
