Record Applications Expected For Melbourne Cup Tour

Friday, 5th February 2016

The Victoria Racing Club is expecting unprecedented community interest to host the 2016 Melbourne Cup tour following Prince Of Penzance's heart-warming victory in last year's edition of the great race, reports Racing.com. The 14th annual Emirates Melbourne Cup tour of Australia and New Zealand does not kick off until July, but tenders are now open for communities wishing to be a part of the 156th running of the country's most famous race in November. "Last November, Ballarat and Berriwillock became central to the celebrations of Darren Weir and Michelle and Stevie Payne's historic Emirates Melbourne cup win," said VRC chief executive Simon Love. "Through this year's Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour we will enable many more communities the opportunity to be part of the Cup's rich cultural narrative in a very special way." Since its inception in 2003, the Melbourne Cup Tour has travelled more than 456,000 kilometres visiting 333 towns and cities.
