Suavito Wins Gr1 CF Orr Stakes

Monday, 15th February 2016

At Caulfield in Melbourne, Windsor Park Stud's ill-fated Gr1-winning stallion Thorn Park (Spinning World-Joy, by Bluebird) celebrated an elite Gr1 success when 5YO New Zealand-bred mare Suavito (Thorn Park-Queen Cha Cha, by High Chaparral) scored by 0.75-length for trainer Nigel Blackiston in the $500,000 Gr1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) for 3YO+, over 6YO gelding Lucky Hussler (Husson-Talaq Dancer, by Black Hawk) & 5YO gelding Hucklebuck (Elvstroem-Kondari, by O'Reilly). This was an excellent return by Suavito who missed the entire spring carnival in order to have surgery to remove a bone chip from her knee. She took her record to 8 wins (including the Gr1 Futurity Stakes, Gr2 Blamey Stakes, Gr2 Matriarch Stakes, Gr2 Momentum Energy Stakes & Gr3 Eliza Park International Stakes) and 7 placings (including the Gr2 Kewney Stakes & Gr3 Ladies Day Vase) from 19 starts for $1,254,550 earnings. Suavito is expected to return to Caulfield in two weeks time to defend her Futurity Stakes title before heading north to Sydney for races such as the Gr1 Doncaster Mile and Gr1 Queen of the Turf Stakes. "I hadn't wound her up because hopefully we have a long campaign heading towards Sydney and she had ten months off, so we had to take her along slowly," trainer Nigel Blackiston told Racing.com. "She loves it here [Caulfield], so I think that we will come back and run in the Futurity Stakes and then we will make a decision whether we go up to 2000 [metres] for the Australian Cup or we go to Sydney for the Coolmore or the other races around."
