Makybe Diva Relation Oaks Bound
Randwick trainer Anthony Cummings says Believe will be targeted at the Australian Oaks after the 3YO filly maintained her perfect record at Rosehill yesterday. The stoutly bred daughter of Fastnet Rock was strongly backed from $10 into $5 in the final event of the day and duly saluted, leading throughout to score by 1 length over race favourite Dixie Blossoms in the fillies & mares benchmark 72 over 1500 metres. Her record now reads 2 wins from 2 starts for $40,275 earnings. Believe is out of the Red Ransom mare Optimist, a half sister to champion mare and three-time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva from the prolific producer Tugela (Riverman). Cummings says he is banking on those esteemed bloodlines to help Believe progress to the Gr1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on 9 April. "She is very good I think, and given her pedigree I think she was probably looking for a second lap," Cummings told Sky Racing. "She's headed towards the Oaks. I think that is a nice target for her." He added: "It's the Makybe Diva family so there is plenty of depth to the pedigree and she's living up to the very best of it." Believe was purchased for $50,000 at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter yearling Sale from the draft of Milburn Creek.
