Mackintosh Confirmed For QLD Derby

Thursday, 2nd June 2016

Trainer Chris Waller has confirmed that promising 3YO Mackintosh (Pins-Lolly Scramble, by Generous) will run in the Gr1 Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday week, reports AAP. Unbeaten in three starts since joining the Waller yard, Mackintosh stamped himself as a genuine derby hope after consecutive Gr3 victories in the Rough Habit Plate and Grand Prix Stakes at his past two outings. The Gr2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) was seriously considered as an alternative target for the New Zealand-bred gelding, but Waller feels his progressive profile makes him a worthy derby contender. "We have made the decision that Mackintosh will definitely run in the Queensland Derby," Waller said. "We are very happy with the way that he has come through his winning run in the Grand Prix over the 2200m. Having seen him come through the race and having a good look at his profile, we have no doubt that he will run the 2400m distance."
